Notes from the Field: Cedars-Sinai Ribbon Cutting
Los Angeles, CA –2013: In the Spring of 2013, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center opened its doors of it’s new surgical and interventional center in its Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion named in honor of the Gross Family. The Gross Family Foundation donated $20 million toward a building that allows brings research and patient care together, allowing physicians and scientists to collaborate closely, developing new procedures and treatments.
“Cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony with my family was a commitment to strengthen the health of our community. The center will combine patient care with research in a forward thinking way in which physicians and scientists will collaborate to come up with new treatments.” said Jennifer, founder of the Blue Chip Foundation and member of the Gross Family Foundation board.
“About a year after we opened the surgery center, a colleague of mine brought her husband who needed a heart transplant to a business meeting. He sat near us with his heart pump and told me how grateful he was that we had built the center where he would be getting his new heart. Within the year, he had his heart transplant there, and it was successful. Somebody close to me benefitted from my family’s gift, and that was wonderful to see.”
The Sue and Bill Gross Surgery and Procedure Center is part of the Pavilion, which accommodates 500 to 600 patients each day and houses outpatient services for the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, neurosciences (departments of Neurosurgery and Neurology), Regenerative Medicine Institute and other clinical specialties, as well as outpatient procedure suites.
The eco-friendly building is designed to meet the requirements of a Gold Certified building under the U.S. Green Building Council LEED™ Program. It features a double glass-walled exterior that provides both energy savings and thermal comfort, and solar panels on the rooftop of Parking Lot 4 provide power to the parking garage.
The 11-story Pavilion includes three underground parking levels, plenty of self-parking and valet parking. It is connected to the main medical center via two pedestrian bridges, including the fifth-floor Sue and Bill Gross Skywalk.
